Pre-Production: DepicT Initial Post

The DepicT film making competition involves making a film only 90 seconds in length. Initially, we brainstormed ideas individually before deciding on our favourite as a group.

My Own Idea

Taking inspiration from the game 'Garry's Mod' my idea was an office based comedy scenario where physics does not work as we know it. The character is seated at his desk when the phone rings, however as he touches it to answer it flies off around the room! The same then happens to his computer keyboard and mouse and various other items. Creeped out by the events, he goes to leave the room but is instead confronted by a crouching man wielding a knife. The film ends with the main character also flying across the room surrounded by black.

Group Decision

Our chosen group idea was set in a dark and hot room, with our main character using the setting as a hiding place from whatever is knocking at the door. Dripping with sweat from both heat and fear, he pours a drink into a glass and sips it nervously. The knocking continues until the door handle starts moving instead, revealing the door is unlocked allowing for the other character to enter. His shadow towers over the intimidated first character, before the lights are switched on revealing the boy scout clutching a box of cookies! We made the decision to use this idea after firstly liking the idea of building tension through the film, and secondly realising that our restricted budget did not allow for our other ideas!
